Stevie-Rae Kirkland (maternity leave)

Stevie is a registered psychologist, educational and development psychology registrar and board approved clinical supervisor. Stevie has provided psychological support to the Illawarra community for the last decade, and has been working in management for the past 6 years, with a focus on clinical oversight and service delivery.

Stevie’s natural therapeutic style is relaxed, conversational and authentic, acknowledging that the person seeking support is the expert of their own experience. Stevie’s approach prioritises safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship and strives to help people feel seen and heard through genuine connection. Stevie is an approved handler for our facility dog, Cooper, and is trained to utilise Cooper within her therapy sessions.

Stevie’s areas of interest include using a neuroaffirming lens to support neurodiverse populations (particularly female and atypical presentations of autism); supporting those who have a history of trauma, attachment disruption and/or adverse life experiences; supervising and supporting the development of provisional and early career psychologists; and supporting those with anxiety presentations. While Stevie adapts and combines different approaches to suit the needs of each individual, her preferred modalities include Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and Canine-assisted Psychotherapy.

Mathew Aquilina

Mathew is a Registered Psychologist and board-approved clinical supervisor. Mathew has a keen interest in the support of fathers and the area of men’s mental health. He also enjoys supervision of provisional psychologists and other mental health professionals. Mathew is currently undertaking Higher Degree Research through University of Wollongong evaluating the effect of relational antenatal preparation on couples' transition to parenthood.

Mathew is passionate about providing families and expecting parents with evidence-informed information to assist the transition to parenthood. He is an accredited Becoming Us Facilitator, and Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator. With a background in child and family psychology, Mathew has worked from an attachment-informed lens for the duration of his clinical career. He values the important role that attachment and bonding play in developing psychological wellbeing and positive relational experiences, and this informs his therapeutic style and practice.

Mathew takes an integrative approach to his practice, with experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic therapy, and EMDR. He has a warm and conversational style and a strengths-based view of those he supports, working to build capacity and increase insight rather than focus on deficit or disorder.

Mathew has completed intensive training with the Perinatal Training Centre and is engaged in ongoing clinical supervision in perinatal mental health, to ensure the best care to his clients.

Megan Blacker

Megan is a registered psychologist and board approved supervisor. She has been working as a therapist in the Illawarra since 2015 and has been a part of the FSA Health and Wellbeing management team since 2021 which has included clinical and service provision oversight.

Megan has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families, drug and alcohol, neurodiversity, suicidal and self-harming behaviours, among many other presentations.

 

Megan has completed training and has some experience with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and many others.

 

Megan believes the client is an expert of their experience and works collaboratively with them and their support system in a client centred and strength-based way. Her approach is relaxed and aims to build trust in safety orientated way.

Megan has a special interest in complex and attachment trauma, as well as all adverse life experiences. She enjoys supporting staff and provisional psychologist through supervision.

Kalynda Powell

Kalynda is a Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working with children, adolescents and families. She has experience working in rural and remote mental health and with Aboriginal communities and individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. With a background in dietetics, she has an interest in the interaction between food and mental health, along with other interests working with those who experience difficulties with anxiety, depression and trauma. Kalynda uses a range of approaches to work with the young person and their family to tailor a therapeutic intervention that will suit their individual needs. 

Kalynda is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) who enjoys working in collaboration with people to help them achieve their health goals. She understands that each person and their situation is unique and takes the time to work with you to tailor an intervention that will suit your individual needs. Kalynda’s dietetic experience spans across a range of areas, including work with children, adolescents and adults, and families. She has experience working in rural areas that experience difficulties with food availability, and with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. As a Clinical Psychologist, Kalynda can also support individuals to understand how food can impact their mental health.

Ajdin is a registered psychologist with experience in community outreach mental health, and further study in transnational neuroscience. Ajdin is passionate about providing personalized approaches to psychotherapy in the child-adolescent-family context. Ajdin works with a focus on evolutionary psychology, bio-psychology, attachment theory, trauma informed and strengths-based approaches. Ajdin also has an interest in Canine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Cooper (aka. Boopy) Mujezinovic-Kirkland

Cooper (A.K.A Boopy) is golden retriever, a fully qualified assistance dog, and a very good boy. Cooper was in training with Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA) from the age of 8 weeks, including 6 months of advanced training. His skills are up to international standards as outlined by Assistance Dogs International. Cooper’s co-therapists, Ajdin and Stevie, completed handler training with Cooper, and are qualified to work with him in public.

Cooper has a passion for Canine Assisted Intervention and has previously helped in OT sessions with ADA. His interests include; pats, belly rubs, liver treats, bumping his head on things, tug, and sleeping.

Kate is a registered psychologist with a warm and empathetic approach. She is passionate about providing a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients can work towards creating a meaningful life. Kate has an unconditional positive regard for clients and works from an evidenced based, neurodiversity-affirming, and trauma informed approach. Kate has experience working with anxiety, depression, neurodiverse populations, behaviour management, grief, attachment disruption, suicidal and self-harming behaviours, and interpersonal difficulties. Kate utilises training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and parenting programs such as Confident Carers Cooperative Kids (CCCK) to empower her clients facilitate positive change.

Daisy is a registered psychologist who is passionate about working with young people and adults, and adopts and warm and friendly approach to therapy. Daisy‘s way of working with clients has a strong emphasis on exploring how early life experiences contribute to the development and maintenance of current mental health concerns. Daisy has worked with a broad range of mental health concerns, though has particular interests in behavioural issues, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the lasting impact of early trauma and attachment disruption. She uses specific therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Stephen has worked in the psychology field for 20 years. He is passionate about helping people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, and existential dilemma learn to manage their mental health and enhance their overall quality of life. He uses a range of counselling modalities, including psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, cognitive behaviour therapy, exposure therapy, brief solution therapy, skills training, activity scheduling, behaviour interventions and modification, mindfulness, acceptance commitment therapy, compassion focused therapy, happiness and positive psychology, stress management and relaxation techniques, including controlled breathing, deep muscle relaxation and guided imagery.

Cherie is a registered psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults with a wide range of presenting problems. Cherie works from a varied framework of therapies including CBT, ACT, Trauma-Focused CBT, Circle of Security, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy and Art/Craft Therapy. She is a qualified Mindfulness and Meditation Therapist. Cherie has completed further training in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Suicide Intervention, Mental Health First Aid and Resilience. Cherie is working on becoming a credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician. She is passionate about psychology, diversity and inclusivity.

Emma completed her thesis examining hooks within popular music from a cognitive psychology perspective at the University of Wollongong. Emma is passionate about early intervention and creating a warm and safe place for clients and their families.

Simone is a Provisional Psychologist with a warm and strengths-based approach to therapy. With specific interests in perinatal mental health, parenting approaches, attachment theories, and the impact of trauma on individuals. Simone has a background in a variety of settings including Telephone Crisis Support, Mental Health First Aid, the Circle of Security program, working with Life Insurance claims, and researching developmental delays. Simone is trained in a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Play Therapy.

Phoebe is a Registered Counsellor and Certified Human Resources Practitioner. With broad past professional experience including Federal and State Government roles (involving crisis management/emergency services response work, leadership, HR and rehabilitation case management), Phoebe has also worked across various organisations in the private and not-for-profit sectors. Focussing more intently on her work as an Allied Health professional for the past 8 years, Phoebe has gained valuable experience in crisis support service provision with Lifeline, Men’s Line Australia and Suicide Call Back Service. While growing her private practice, Phoebe has also since expanded her scope of practice to include trauma counselling via her critical incident response work and employee assistance program services.

Skilled in a broad range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, relationships, suicide prevention & bereavement plus loss and grief support, Phoebe takes individual client circumstances into account to tailor and apply a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rogerian, Solutions Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Jane is an accredited mental health social worker and a PACFA certified practising counsellor. She has worked as a social worker in an inpatient mental health facility (Chisholm Ross Centre, Goulburn) and currently works in private practice with adults and young adults.

Jane works with people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, and personality disorders, and has a particular interest in helping people recover from the impacts of trauma. Jane’s approach is authentic, compassionate, and curious. Her work is also informed by values work and a strengths-based approach.

Jane is trained in CBT, EMDR and art psychotherapy. She also uses internal family systems, mindfulness, focusing and creative visualisation to enhance her therapeutic work. She is informed by Jungian psychology and holistic therapeutic approaches including engaging in nature and promoting good nutrition.

Jane provides supervision for social workers and is continually pursuing learning opportunities to deepen her understanding and increase her skills.

Before choosing a career pathway in Counselling, Noel had 35 years working in various aspects of the Creative Industries. There he gained experience working with others navigating the ever-changing circumstances of life found in this Industry of insecure work, stress, relationships, identity, and purpose. He is drawn to the stories and life journeys that we share – stories that are common to our society and those stories that are kept in the privacy of individual lives. As a Counsellor he focuses on what these stories mean to those who are travelling through life’s changes, struggles, and questions, and how we adapt and cope with these changes. He has experience in working in both personal and community Crisis situations, providing support in grief and loss, suicide prevention, life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationships, spirituality (religion), concerns for teens and questions of life meaning and purpose.

 

He is trained and continues to develop his skills in Person-centred therapies, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Solutions focussed, Motivational Interviewing, Somatic Experiencing and Spiritual Direction.

Tom’s client presentations have included mood, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and addiction.

Tom has experience with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), developing distress tolerance, Motivational Interviewing (MI), crisis support, developing skills in emotional regulation, and mindfulness. Tom believes the therapy process is collaborative and aims to establish a trusting rapport with clients and parents to develop client skills, and support systems surrounding the client.

Dayne is an accredited member of PACFA and practising counsellor. Collectively, Dayne has 7 years of experience within Mental Health working with; alcohol and other drugs, at-risk Youth, situational distress, grief and loss, walk and talk, neuro-affirming practices, and trauma-informed practices.

Dayne has training and understanding in the Rogerian approach, Affect Regulation Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, Existentialism, as well as a handful of other forms of Therapies.

Dayne works with a focus on attachment theory and with an understanding of nervous system activation.

A Goulburn local that is passionate about supporting others in their recovery journey and seeing them smash their goals. She has a strong interest in suicide prevention and is currently pursuing studies in counselling and is looking forward to expanding her skills in this area.

With over five years of experience in the medical industry, Claire is able to bring a personal touch to her role at Family Services Australia and strives to make a positive impact every day. Outside of work, she loves spending time at the beach with her children and dogs or having a much-needed coffee with friends.

Madi is one of our amazing Client Care Support workers, who is dedicated at providing a safe and comfortable environment for all clients. She has experience supporting at risk adults, children, and adolescents in support work roles, as well as several years of administrative experience in community services environments. She is passionate about the advocacy and inclusion of neurodiverse people, people with psychosocial and/or physical disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and other marginalised/vulnerable groups.
